Social Security Disability Benefits 2018 IncreaseIf you receive Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income benefits, here’s some good news. The Social Security Administration has announced these benefits will increase by 2% for the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2018. This means that more than 66 million Americans will have some extra money in their pockets.
This year’s increase is significant as there has been very little increase since 2015.

2018 Changes to Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Here’s a breakdown of the changes:

  • Individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (or SSI benefits) will receive up to $750 in benefits instead of $735.
  • Couples may receive up to $1125 in benefits.

2018 Changes to Social Security Disability Benefits

Social Security Disability benefits will also increase by 2%. Benefit amounts vary based upon the individual’s Primary Insurance Amount (PIA), which is calculated using a formula assessing the individuals earnings history. Click here for more information regarding this calculation.

2018 Changes to Work Activity

The Social Security Administration has made increases in the amounts considered for work activity. They have increased the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) threshold to $1180 per month for non-blind individuals and $1970 per month for blind individuals. Individuals who are disabled and are working, but not able to earn over the amount may still be eligible to apply for benefits.

The trial work period threshold has also increased to $850 per month. This program allows a person that is already on benefits to attempt to return to the workforce while still collecting benefits.

Trying to navigate Social Security on my own seemed futile. It can be a long arduous process. My experience with Marva Match and her team was nothing short of outstanding! There were a lot of complexities involved with my case and they didn’t give up. I’m extremely grateful to Marva for advocating on my behalf. I highly recommend Match Disability Law to anyone going through this process.

My attorney at Match Disability approached my case with compassion. She showed genuine concern for me and my family. In the end she pushed my claim through and it was approved in about six weeks. This will not be the same scenario for many claimant's unfortunately, but my story is proof of the genuine care these attorneys have for their clients. Contacting Match Disability is one of the best decisions I've made.

We have hired Match Disability Law on two different occasions for two separate cases. Both times all of the staff were very helpful and courteous to us as we navigated the difficult Social Security Disability appeals process. I know that it is because of their caring dedication to their clients that both of our cases were approved. Marva and her staff do an excellent job at representing their clients. We recommend them to anyone looking for help after receiving a denial for SS disability benefits. I would give more stars if I could. We are forever grateful for their firm.

These guys were quite for you, they've been on my side for years. I've been denied and denied and denied and denied. And finally, we have won my Battle.

I had a disappointing experience with Ms. Match. At the commencement of our experience together I had some conversations with some of her staff. They were professional, and courteous. However, when it came time for the hearing I had two or three phone conversations with Ms. Match in which she was short, rude and condescending - not what I would expect from a professional who has chosen to work with those in very desperate and vulnerable situations. My claim was ultimately denied following the hearing and I had received very little counsel in the nearly twenty or so months it took from applying to the hearing. I feel as though if I had received better counsel I could have won my case as my medical history clearly demonstrates a serious medical issue. I have given two stars instead of one because my dealings with her staff were positive.
