To receive disability benefits based on mental health impairments, a person must have a mental health diagnosis from a health professional as well as functional impairments that stem from that diagnosis.
The impairment must result in extreme impairment in one of the following areas or marked impairment in two of the following areas.
- They include, understand, remember or apply information, maintain attention and concentration, interact with others
- or adapt and manage oneself.
