THE NUMBERS ARE IN
Payments for Social Security Disability, Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Retirement will increase by 2.8 percent for 2019. The increase is due to an automatic cost of living adjustment mandated by law and is based on inflation.
The increase will take effect for January 2019 payments for the 62 million Americans benefiting from Social Security and the 8 million SSI recipients. The 2.8 percent increase is a slightly higher than the 2 percent increase beneficiaries saw in 2018 and the largest ever increase since 2012.
